Rolling With Dads x Blue Shield Promise & L.A. Care | Digital Literacy & Workforce Development
We've always said that supporting fathers means meeting them where they are—not just emotionally, but practically. In June, Rolling With Dads partnered with Blue Shield of California Promise and L.A. Care to launch a Digital Skills & Technology program at the South LA Community Resource Center. Free classes. All year long. Real skills. No prior experience required.
This is what workforce development looks like when it actually reaches the people who need it.
What We Did
Rolling With Dads facilitated a new digital literacy and workforce development series called Pathways to Prosperity at the Community Resource Center in South LA—a space Blue Shield Promise and L.A. Care jointly operate as part of a network of 14 Community Resource Centers across Los Angeles County. The program was built directly from community input: residents said these were the skills they needed most, and we showed up to deliver them.
Sessions are hands-on, judgment-free, and designed for anyone—fathers, older adults, people navigating career transitions. Participants bring their own devices and work through real tools with a facilitator guiding them every step of the way. The first session drew 12 participants. The second was at full capacity—and every class since has been fully booked.
How It Came Together
Blue Shield Promise and L.A. Care identified the gap. Rolling With Dads filled it. What made this partnership work was alignment from the jump—both organizations are committed to showing up in community in a way that feels accessible, not transactional. The South LA Community Resource Center is already a space people trust. Bringing our programming there meant we didn't have to ask people to come to us. We came to them.
As Arturo Piña, site manager at the Center, put it:
People across South LA are looking for ways to grow but don't always have access to the tools or guidance.
That's exactly the problem we built this to solve.
The Impact
Classes are offered twice a month and run through the end of the year. Topics started with digital and technology skills and will expand to include resume writing, LinkedIn profile development, interview prep, job searching, and financial readiness. Participants can drop in or attend consistently—either way, they leave with something they can use.
Blue Shield Promise even featured the partnership on their official news site, which says everything about how this collaboration landed.
Why It Matters
RWD was founded to support fathers through community, education, and connection. But when we looked at what fathers in South LA were actually navigating—job market changes, digital access gaps, the pressure to provide in an economy that keeps shifting—it was clear that workforce development had to be part of our work too. When individuals have the tools and access they need, it strengthens families. It strengthens the whole community. That's not a tagline. That's why we're in that room twice a month.
We're just getting started.
